SAVANNAH (Holland) 

 

Savannah was founded in 1986 in TILBURG, by Peter Hill, a highly respected guitarist. His albums often sold as many as 20.000 copies each. His biggest dream however was to found his own band and in 1986 he was lucky enough to find the right musicians in his own hometown. The band played a variety of venues and festivals as well as opening for a bunch of American stars. To name but a few: Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Suzy Bogguss, The Texas Tornados etc. They also successfully backed stars like: Freddy Fender, Don King, Ed Bruce, Dave Dudley, Wanda Jackson and Allen Frizzell, brother of the late, great Lefty Frizzell. In 1991 they released their debut CD 'For You' and this album made it to CD of the month by KRO national radio as well as in Country Gazette, one of Europe's leading country publications. In the following years they toured as far as Belgium, France, England as well as Switzerland and Austria and most recently Italy, Malta and Norway! Savannah often performs with Ruud Hermans and Sandra Vanreys. In 1993 they decided for a new name and SAVANNAH moved on taking the stages all across Europe and delivering new CD's: 'Lights In The Night' and 'Side By Side'. On April 26th 1998 they were voted number one band by the organization of Country Gazette magazine along with the members of the Dutch Country Music Association. In '98,'99 en 2000 they performed as many as over one hundred gigs in not only Holland, but also performed in Belgium, France, Austria and opened concert gigs for the legendary Bellamy Brothers in Norway as well as performing in Lithuania in front of 35.000 music fans. The band has released their CD "Love, Me" in 1999 with special guest John Permenter on fiddle. The band won "the best band of the year" award in 1999 as well as 2000, 2001 and 2002. In April of 2003 is a new CD was released: "The Best Of Savannah". In 2005 they recorded one of their shows in the Rabo Theatre in Oirschot, Holland and the results can be seen and heard on a fantastic DVD. A new CD was released early 2011 and produced by Marcel Smulders of Savannah along with their friend Billy Yates, who also sings on this album. The CD was released on Nashville's MOD Records, owned by BIlly Yates.
